League Skater, League Secretary, Master of Hockey Stop, Apex Jumper Extraordinaire

If you looked up the definition of “110%” in the dictionary, you would find a picture of this woman. She has become a master of learning her weaknesses and focusing with laser-like precision on making herself stronger. It seems she spends every spare moment of her life in her skates, working on perfecting whatever skill she has set her sights on next.

If there is a scrimmage or a pick-up game anywhere in Southern California, she’s probably there playing her heart out. She is as comfortable sharing the track with the boys in a co-ed bout, as she is tearing up the track during our home team season.

Her focused bout face is intense. So very intense. Her silly bout face lights up the whole room. She is chock full of squishy goodness if you are lucky enough to break through her rough and tumble outer shell.

Stomp those skates on the floor for our October Derby Doll of the Month, #182….NOVA!

We Asked Nova 6 Questions

1. When did you see your first bout?
December 2012. It was the Diego Rollers vs SR99.

2. Who is your derby inspiration?
My derby inspiration tends to change. Currently the Puget Sound Outcasts and the St. Louis Gatekeepers top my inspiration list. Both teams played incredible games against Your Mom Men’s Derby in the MRDA Champs. They both set their sights on a goal and played their hearts out fighting for it.

3. What is the significance of your name/number?
Nova is actually a reference to a Marvel comic book character. He’s kind of a mix between Spider Man and the Green Lantern with some pretty cool abilities. My number references one of my favorite bands, Blink 182.

4. Who’s your biggest fan?
Probably my mom.

5. Advice for anyone thinking of joining derby?
Just get out there and keep practicing. Everyone falls down, it’s just a matter of getting back up and continuing on.

6. What is your favorite board game? Why?
Scrabble because I like to see how many obscure/inappropriate words I can get on the board in one game.
