The San Diego Derby Dolls and SoCal Derby openly welcome new and transfer skaters!
The women’s league is comprised of some of the fiercest skaters around and is open to women aged 18 and over, and our juniors league is for girls ages 7-17. The Derby Dolls are the only league in the world who have been ranked nationally on both banked and flat track. We are proud to offer San Diego roller derby players both WFTDA and RDCL competitive options. While some skaters favor one track over the other, most of our members are bitraxual, and have utilized skills from each track to help them improve their skating on any surface.
No experience is required. Even if you have never roller skated a day in your life, the Dolls can teach you. Every new league member joins our facility through our Bootcamp program. During this time you will get personal instruction and assessments from veteran coaches. Transfer skaters may sidestep bootcamp altogether, depending on their previous experience. Whether you are brand new to skating or transferring to play in WFTDA and/or RDCL, we’ve got you covered on both the flat and banked tracks in one accommodating downtown location in San Diego.
(Ages 18+) San Diego Derby Dolls has a multi-tier training system to get you ready for becoming a full-fledged roller derby player! After attending orientation, new athletes join a 3-level bootcamp training program to groom them into great skaters. With teams in both the RDCL and WFTDA, we train on both the flat and banked tracks and offer our skaters the choice to find their derby passion on any surface.
Bootcamp practices are held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening at the Dollhouse, our private training facility in downtown San Diego. In addition, Bootcampers may come work on their skills every Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, providing Dollhouse Bootcamp members with five days a week to train. After graduating from Bootcamp, skaters move on to bouting-level and, after a brief probationary period, are eligible to be drafted to teams.
Referees face a fast paced, but very rewarding environment – working under two sets of rules, with skaters and officials from leagues both local and national. There are many positions The Stripes need to fill both for bouts, and at practice, in order to provide a safe, fair, and fun environment for the skaters and fans. And that’s why we need you!
If you can’t (yet) skate, we (and the Dolls) will teach you. And there are many positions off skates as well that are in need of people willing to learn the rules and everybody needs to learn the rules! Learn more about our referee program.
Players from all leagues or without league affiliation are welcome to participate so long as they meet minimum skills standards. Sessions are open to men and women skaters who are 18+. Recreation league is $10.00 in advance, or $12.00 at the door for participating skaters. There is no charge for officials and spectators though they must still fill out required paperwork for entrance. Learn more about Guys & Dolls Co-Ed Roller Derby Recreation League.
