As referees, we face a fast paced, but very rewarding environment – working under two sets of rules, with skaters and officials from leagues both local and national. There are many positions we need to fill both for bouts, and at practice, in order to provide a safe, fair, and fun environment for the skaters and fans. And that’s why we need you!
If you can’t (yet) skate, we (and the Dolls) will teach you. And there are many positions off skates as well that are in need of people willing to learn the rules and everybody needs to learn the rules!
What’s the time commitment?
We’d like you to commit to 8 hours a month; that comes to about one practice per week. Bouts are generally on Saturday nights, and attendance at the preceding Monday scrimmage is usually mandatory. Many of us spend a lot more time on Roller Derby, but that’s the least we expect.
What’s the money commitment?
None! For skating referees – stripes, skates, and personal protection equipment all are required as well as personal medical insurance. For non-skating officials, a black uniform and a whistle is just about all that you’ll need.
